Rosemarie R. Cox Scholarship 2011

Eligibility: Offered to any high school senior member of the St. Mark the Evangelist Catholic Community pursuing higher education.  Scholarship applications are available to any high school senior who is a registered member of St. Mark the Evangelist regardless of age, provided that they will complete high school this year or receive a GED, and that they provide evidence of having been accepted into a program of study beyond High School level.

Process:  The Applicant will complete or submit all of the following:

        • Application
        • Essay Answer(s)
        • Other information or data as required.
    • Application: The Knights of Columbus will design a uniform application to capture demographic information such as name, address and telephone number.  The application may also include areas to list any and all church or community projects and programs in which the applicant participated.  The applicant may be asked at a later date to submit corroboration of these activities.
    • The application, together with the essay answers, will be delivered to the Knights of Columbus (see address below) on or by a date specified.  The Grand Knight or his designee will open and assign a code to each applicant and each item will carry a code forward on each and every document.   The Pastor may also be asked to confirm registered membership status.  Any application that does not meet membership eligibility standards will be rejected and not considered further.

    • Essay Responses: The Knights of Columbus will design an essay question(s) in advance of the application process.  A Selection Review Committee of the Knights of Columbus will review each essay and determine from those submitted, the best three responses.   The three essay responses will be ranked 1st, 2nd, and 3rd.
    • Other Data: The Knights of Columbus may at its discretion require additional information to supplement the application process or to corroborate application entries or essay responses.

    • Application forms and rules will be made available to all interested parish members through bulletin inserts, hand outs, parish committee presentations and Council website (www.kc10488.com) during the  months of February, March and April.

    •                                  E-mail requests must be received on or before 5/1/11.   Electronic application forms will NOT be available after 5/1/11.

Applications will NOT be accepted electronically.

Application and Essay reviews:

    • All applications will be reviewed from May 16th – June 7, 2011.  The top three applications will be submitted to the Grand Knight, Pastor, or their designee(s) who will review the applications and give weight to the level of the church or community service of the applicants.  The combination of community or church activity and the essay answer will determine which individual(s) will receive an award.

The Knights of Columbus will assign award recognition to at least one applicant, and if finances allow, may award additional scholarships.   The winner(s) will be announced at a time deemed appropriate by the Grand Knight or his designee, in June 2011
